DirectX Download

PRE-INSTALLATION NOTE 2

If you have already tried an unsuccessful installation, you should go to START, CONTROL PANEL (or on some Windows versions START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL) and double click on the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon.  Delete all mention of "Scalar USB Shot" and "USB Shot."

PRE-INSTALLATION NOTE 3

If you DO NOT have a CD, you will need to click this link to get both your driver and application.

After downloading both the driver and application, you will double click each one.  The window will have a button which says "Install".  This really will create a folder.  The driver will be called "Driver" and the app will be called "USB Shot".  Place both of these folders on a CD and name the CD "Installation CD for USB Shot 1.32" and then proceed below.

Loading the driver and USB Shot application software (assuming you now have DirectX version 8.0 or greater):
1) Place this CD in your CD drive.

2) Plug in your Scope.  The computer should recognize that a new device has been added to the computer.  An installation wizard should appear.  If the wizard asks you if you want to search the Net for a driver, click, “No, not at this time” or to that effect.  Then Click NEXT or as soon as possible choose the automatic search option (Recommended) and all of the "NEXT" defaults after this. At one point, the program will inform you that the driver has not be signed, “Continue Anyway.”  There is no problem with this driver. This should have loaded the driver correctly. Click FINISH at the end.

3) To load the application, go to START, RUN, BROWSE, and go to the CD, double click the  "USB Shot folder", double click the SETUP file with the blue computer screen icon.  Choose all of the defaults and the click FINISH.

4) Launch the program by clicking START, PROGRAMS, USB SHOT, and the the USB SHOT icon.  If the program does not launch so that you can see images with the scope, see '"Troubleshooting Tips Below."

Troubleshooting

I am getting solid black images.

5) If after loading the software you find that your pictures are simply black images, check your monitor settings to make sure that you are set to at least 24 bit imaging (right click on your desktop, select PROPERTIES, SETTINGS tab and check your COLORS SETTING.).

6) Occasionally, the installation wizard does not appear when the scope is plugged.  First we will try to uninstall and the reinstall.  If this does not work, then we will try to update any listing of the driver in Device Manger.  These two procedures are outlined below.

The software did not load properly the first time.

If you have already tried to load the scope using the Installation Wizard’s Automatic feature and have been unsuccessful, you will need to uninstall first before trying to reload the driver.  To uninstall perform the following steps:

7) Go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

8) Remove both line items if they are present:  “Scalar USB Shot” and “USB Shot.” Reboot making sure that your scope is NOT plugged in.  Then perform the installation at the beginning of this document.

If the above fails or your computer does not provide an installation wizard at all:

9) Click the following:  Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Device Manager Tab (in 98-ME) or Hardware Tab – Device Manager button in 2000 & XP.

10) Click on “Imaging Device” if it is present. (If the Scalar USB product does not appear, see if there is “Other device” whose description matches the Scalar USB Microscope.

11) On 98 & ME, click on the Scalar USB Product (or on the “Other Device” that matches) then click on the driver tab.  [On 2000 & XP, right click on the Scalar USB line or on the "Other Device" that matches and click on the "Update Driver" option.]

12) Manually direct the computer to search the CD Rom for the "Driver" folder and you should see indication of the Pcam2 file.  Select all of the positive defaults.  If you have trouble with this pocedure, please email us at and include your phone number.

13) Load the application USB Shot by going to to START, RUN, BROWSE, and go to the CD, double click the  USB Shot folder, double click the SETUP file (the “SETUP” with the blue computer screen icons), click OPEN, OK.  Choose all of the defaults.

I have been up and viewing, but now if am getting a “Confirm USB Cable” error.

14) During operation the camera, it is possible to get a “Rendor Error” or “Confirm USB Cable Error”.  Simply close the USB Shot program, unplug the scope and replug it in.  Then launch the Scalar USB Shot program.

15) If number one does not work, please reboot and try again.

I cannot use the scope as a USER under a 2000 or XP network.  I can only see the scope as an ADMINISTRATOR.

Ask you administrator to perform the following:

Grant that all users may access the folder C:\Program Files\Scalar.  If this does not work, proceed to the details below.

1) Set all the files you read off to full control for all authenticated users.

2) Use regedt32 as the adminstrator to change the security settings for all keys and subkeys under 'scalar' and under 'divio' to full control for all authenticated users - make sure to make settings propagate to child keys.
